Dental Implants
If you're missing one or more teeth, you may be particularly aware of their importance to your appearance and dental health. All of your teeth work together to help you chew, speak, and smile. When teeth are missing, it is difficult to do these things. Even the loss of a back tooth may cause your mouth to shift and your face to look older. Fortunately, missing teeth can be replaced, and they should be. A dental implant is much like a natural tooth, which has a root in the jaw, topped by a crown that you can see. Dental implants also can be used to anchor many teeth in a bridge or to anchor dentures. Successful implants requires a "team" approach - the patient, the dentist, who makes the crown or restorative work for the implant, and the oral surgeon, who places the implant fixture.

Types of Complete Prostheses
There are two types of complete denture prostheses:removable and fixed. Both can be used to replace a complete set of teeth. Removable means you will be able to take it out of your mouth and fixed means only a dentist will be able to remove it. You and Dr. Clausnitzer can discuss which type is best for you. |

Removable Prosthesis With a removable prosthesis, the new teeth are joined to the implants by a connecting device, such as a clip and bar. This allows you to take the prosthesis out for cleaning. |

Fixed Prosthesis With a fixed prosthesis, the new teeth are fitted to a frame that is secured to the implants. A fixed prosthesis offers more stability for chewing. |
